CHILD THERAPY
OCD can become a big problem for children and their families. Compulsions and rituals can cause lots of anxiety and frustration for both children and parents alike.  Compulsions and rituals can also prevent children from focusing on school work, sports and social time. They may begin to avoid school or socializing due to fears their OCD symptoms will be noticed. If your child is suffering from OCD, its important to know there is help.

Fortunately, there is effective, short-term treatment for OCD. At the Bay Area Center for Anxiety we use Exposure with Response Prevention, an effective form of treatment designed to help children overcome their obsessions and compulsions and return to living their life.
Symptoms of Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
1. Obsessions:
  • Recurrent or persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced as intrusive and inappropriate causing anxiety or distress
2. Compulsions:
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., hand washing, putting things in order, checking) or mental acts (e.g., praying, counting, repeating words silently) that the person feels driven to perform to neutralize obsessions
  • The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at reducing distress or preventing a dreaded event from occurring
