CHILD THERAPY
Most people have experienced a degree of stage fright before speaking in a group or have felt butterflies before an interview or competition. These reactions are natural. However, for those with Social Anxiety, the feeling isn't nervousness but intense fear and near panic.
Social Anxiety can be profoundly debilitating, particularly for those whose careers require public speaking, presentations, or performances. The intense fear of judgment or embarrassment can hinder professional growth, limit opportunities, and diminish confidence in both professional and social settings.
The fear and avoidance can feel overwhelming and the potential embarrassment seems imminent. This can lead to lost work opportunities, missed promotions, even the loss of employment.
Fortunately Social Phobia, like certain other anxiety disorders, is one of the most treatable mental health conditions. At the Bay Area Center for Anxiety we use empirically validated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help those suffering from Social Phobia. Our goal is to help you move beyond anxiety and fully engage in both personal and professional opportunities .
Sides of Social Phobia in adults:
  • A, persistent or excessive fear  of one or more social or performance situations in which a person is exposed to unfamiliar people.
  • A strong fear of embarrassment or humiliation, leading to avoidance of these situations
  • Exposure to the situation almost invariably provokes intense anxiety. Sometimes this anxiety can take the form of a Panic Attack.
  • The person recognizes that the fear is excessive or unreasonable.
  • The feared social or performance situation is avoided or endured with intense anxiety or stress.
  • The avoidance, anxiety, or distress in the feared social or performance situation interferes significantly with work, school or social activities - or there is is marked distress about having social phobia.
  • The fear or avoidance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance, a medical problem or other mental health disorder.
